It was founded by Simone de la Bastide, April Bermudez, Jan Ryan, and Penny Elias in March 1998<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to realize a dream of creating an extraordinary women\u2019s charitable organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WAND began its work from humble beginnings both at the level of Fundraising and seeking and implementing worthy Projects. In the early days the committee concentrated on one small project at a time and each member worked at bringing in funds to cover project costs.\u00a0 Work was also done on sourcing products and gifts to support fundraisers in response to the needs of a project or projects. We learnt as we went along and gained experience, based on which, we later brought new focus to the organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WAND grew at a rapid rate and was able to access international donations and raise funds locally. WAND continues to look for worthy projects across Trinidad and Tobago.\u00a0 We have aligned ourselves with other Charitable Organisations, the Diplomatic Corp and Philanthropy; Corporate and private citizens, and the Interclub of Trinidad &amp; Tobago, a group of 20 NGO\u2019s performing and responding to similar needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A humbling experience for WAND was receiving the \u201c<\/span><b>National Award for Community Service Gold<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 conferred at Trinidad &amp; Tobago\u2019s Independence Award Ceremony on 31<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> August 2014<\/span><b>.\u00a0 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mona Khan, President at the time, and<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jan Bocas Ryan<\/span><b>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Secretary, attended the Ceremony on behalf of the Organization.\u00a0 In the same year, WAND received the \u201c<\/span><b>Faith Wiltshire Award<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d for Community Service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding_last_edited=&#8221;on|tablet&#8221; With her experience she lectured at the Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business on event management, etiquette and protocol and also conducts her own corporate sessions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She served on the Board of the Media Complaints Council of Trinidad &amp; Tobago in 2016\/2018 and is currently on the ANSA McAL Foundation Board. Lisa remains passionate about education and learning and has served on several education committees and pioneered projects in the field of curriculum design . She is the proud mother of 2 girls and enjoys family time, cooking , entertaining and helping the less fortunate. She completed her undergraduate degree in Information Systems Management in Washington, DC and subsequently completed her MSc in Computer Science at Pace University, New York.<\/p>\n<p>She started her career at the New York Stock Exchange where she worked on a key project in the historic transformation of the New York Stock Exchange from a manual auction system to a highly automated trading system (Hybrid Market).\u00a0 She then assumed the position of Lead Application Developer at Kellogg Capital Markets Ltd. before moving on to Citigroup where she was the Head of Solution Architecture for the Institutional Client Group.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015 she returned to Trinidad to take up the position of General Manager at CWD Enterprises Ltd., the manufacturing subsidiary of the Kenson Group of Companies gaining significant operational, financial, marketing and HR and IR experience. In 2018 she took up the position of Chief Operating Officer-Finance, IT and Administration with the Kenson Group of Companies. Since then, she has played a lead role in the restructuring of the Group, in the implementation of modern Technology Platforms and in the optimization of it\u2019s Governance Systems and Procedures. This work, combined with her 15 years\u2019 experience in the Financial Technology industry, led her to be nominated to the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago where she has served since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Lorraine is passionate about animal welfare, especially wild birds and she owns two sun conures. She is also an avid collector of wine and art. Since 2016 she has maintained a practice in a variety of areas including criminal and civil litigation, family, corporate and\u00a0 commercial and probate. This decision permitted her to<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">participate fully at the Parent Teacher level at the schools which her daughters attended. At<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">St. Andrews Primary School, Tricia served as a class representative for several years, and as<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the PTA Secretary for two (2) years. At St Joseph\u2019s Convent POS, Tricia became a Class Rep<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coordinator, part of a two (2) member team, which successfully introduced the class<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">representative system for parents, and she was also a member of a small group of parents<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who raised the necessary funds to fully renovate and equip the school\u2019s chemistry<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">laboratory. In 2013 she was appointed a Director of the Trinidad and Tobago Heart Foundation and Chair of its Go Red for Women campaign dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and control of heart disease in women.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Harrikissoon returned to the School of Dentistry in January 2011 as a part time clinical instructor and facilitator in the Special Needs Dental Clinic providing dental services to children with neurological and developmental challenges including Down\u2019s Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In April 2011 Dr. Harrikissoon was appointed President of Soroptimist International San Fernando (SISF) which is a local chapter of Soroptimist International. The latter is a global service organization for women committed to a world where women and girls achieve their individual and collective potential, realize aspirations and ambitions and have an equal voice in creating strong, peaceful communities worldwide; she is also the<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chairman of Shangri-La Soroptimist Retirement Home Limited which is the longest standing Club project of SISF.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sabita is a keen Rotary Partner and has received a Paul Harris Fellow from the Rotary Club of San Fernando South (RCSS) which is Rotary\u2019s highest honour; she has for many years led joint Health Outreach projects of SISF and RCSS providing a range of medical screenings for impoverished persons in rural and isolated villages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Harrikissoon comes from a family with high moral standards and deep spiritual values. Her work experience includes international organizations such as the United Nations (FAO), the BG Group and is currently the Deputy Director (Legal) at the Occupational Safety and Health Agency (\u201cOSHA\u201d) having served as Executive Director when required.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She began her career at the Solicitor General\u2019s Department, Ministry of the Attorney General where she provided advice to various Ministries bodies and Departments of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and successfully represented the Attorney General and various bodies before the High Court and Court of Appeal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ms. John-Beerens has certification, experience and training in mediation, negotiation and corporate governance. As a result, she has served on Boards and various Committees (including Event Committees).
